I’m Jane Riccobono, a midwife, childbirth educator and meditation teacher.

My approach to childbirth education is feminist and spiritual. I was initially drawn to birth work because of its implications about how women are treated in society. This has been important to me ever since studying gender studies as an undergraduate at Cornell University. I see pregnancy as a journey that offers an opportunity to connect with deep truths about your life and yourself. It’s a rite of passage and an initiation into the next phase of who you’re becoming. My mission is to support you in experiencing pregnancy and birth authentically, with as much ease and confidence as possible.

I’ve studied birth from many angles—as a doula, teacher, midwife, and researcher. I started my birth work as a doula at San Francisco General Hospital. I then taught prenatal classes to underserved women at a nonprofit called the Homeless Prenatal Program. Soon after, I became a Certified Nurse Midwife and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner through one of the top midwifery programs in the country, at the University of California, San Francisco. I am also trained in two childbirth education modalities: Mindfulness Based Childbirth and Parenting (MBCP) and Centering Pregnancy. I trained with Nancy Bardacke, founding director of MBCP, and am an author on a research study on the program’s impact on childbirth outcomes. In my class, I distill everything I’ve learned to support you mentally, physically and spiritually during your pregnancy.

My birth work evolved in tandem with my spiritual practice. I am drawn to both birth and contemplative practices because they connect us to a richer experience of being alive. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to develop my own spiritual path with a number of accomplished teachers in powerful practice settings. My journey has taken me to the San Francisco Zen Center, Spirit Rock Meditation Center, India, and to becoming a yoga teacher through Prema Yoga Brooklyn. My own spiritual path informs how I help you access the transformative and enlivening aspects of pregnancy and birth. Every person and every pregnancy is different. What does this pregnancy have to teach you?

I have been studying meditation and birth for over 10 years, and it’s with great joy that I bring the fruits of my experience to you.
